Come along to our fortnightly photo sessions to dust off your camera and get snap-happy with a professional photography instructor. Brush up on your camera skills and learn new photography techniques whilst on a photo walk class with other local keen photographers!
We have a different photo theme each fortnight and the two hour sessions take place in different outdoor locations across Southampton and Hampshire. Great opportunity to try something new with the guidance of a professional photographer, and come away with some new shots for your portfolio or album.
Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.
What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!
What’s involved? Each session starts with an introduction to the fortnight’s theme, and the photography instructor will chat about the camera settings and techniques to use. You’ll then have time to take lots of photos, with the instructor present to answer any questions. You’ll receive feedback and have a chance to chat with everyone to share tips and ideas. We’re a social bunch!
The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.
Experimenting with Light in Photography - Southampton Guildhall - 6pm-8pm - 2 hours
Cameras are (put simply) just boxes (expensive ones!) that record the light in front of the lens. So why not have fun with it? Chuck aside the rule book in this session, as we’ll be playing with all sorts of ways to creatively manipulate light for some interesting effects. This is a great session to come along to if you’ve been feeling a bit stuck in a rut lately! - Tripod essential for this session!

Moody Black and White Photography - Winchester High Street - 10am-12pm - 2 hours
Photography is all about playing with light, but for this session we're taking things a little darker.
We'll be exploring dark and moody black&white photography, as we wind our way through Winchester's streets and create some hauntingly atmospheric shots. This is a great session to get to grips with using different camera settings, and learning how to use contrasts and light in your photography.

Street Photography: Capturing the Story - Bargate, Southampton Centre - 10am-12pm - 2 hours
Street photography can be addictive, but also frustrating at times! When there’s so much going on in front of your camera, it can be hard to pick out what to focus on and shoot. In this session we’ll be looking at how to separate a good photo story from the noise, and how to improve the photos you take when out and about with your camera.

I really enjoyed the event. I have not done much long exposure photography before so it was a very helpful session. Simon gave us clear instructions for the tasks, and he came round during each task to give feedback and advice on how to improve. It has definitely given me the confidence to go out and experiment myself. 5/5 by Natalie Hamilton 17-11-2019
