Architectural Photography - Winchester Cathedral at 9.30am
Architectural photography can be a great way of exploring and documenting a city, whether it’s your home or on holiday. We’ll be looking at ways to take some impressive shots and the camera settings to use whilst exploring the incredible Winchester Cathedral and surrounds. - Hosted by Simon Garratt -
£12pp     10 places left
We have a different photo theme each fortnight and the two hour sessions take place in different outdoor locations across Southampton and Hampshire. Great opportunity to try something new with the guidance of a professional photographer, and come away with some new shots for your portfolio or album.

Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

What’s involved? Each session starts with an introduction to the fortnight’s theme, and the photography instructor will chat about the camera settings and techniques to use. You’ll then have time to take lots of photos, with the instructor present to answer any questions. You’ll receive feedback and have a chance to chat with everyone to share tips and ideas. We’re a social bunch!

The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

Really great expirince with Simon and others

The event was well organised and started on time. Simon gave a clear brief of what he hoped to achieve during the session and although we were not able to finish off light painting due to time overrun nobody could complain. All in all I learnt a lot and also added to the knowledge that I am acquiring. Thanks for a great evening

Simon was brilliant as always, he explained every thing and was very supportive. the setting was brilliant and made it easy for us to learn and achieve. last part of the lesson, light trails was absolutely brilliant! we laughed and had so much fun great fun photographing light trails

The event gave me the opportunity to try a few things I hadn’t done before, such as light painting. On the downside, there were arguably too many people to get all the tripods in for some of the locations.

It was kept simple. Two locations close to one another which allowed the time to be spent on taking photos and receiving very useful assistance from Simon - on this occasion how to use live view and read histogram - and feedback on images captured. I've had my SLR for almost 4 years and only now understand how to shoot using live view and the info there. Thank you.

Good to meet a larger group for this one - it was a social event rather than a tutorial event, and with the numbers attending the group soon split into a number of smaller groups as people spent different amounts of time at each enclosure. Was great to see the variety of shots from people afterwards.

I’m assuming this is re the Marwell trip. It was a really good day, helped by the obliging sunshine. What I like about the SPG is that everyone is so friendly. Its good to be able to just talk and compare notes with so many people, most of whom you may be meeting for the first time.

It was really good to arrange something so ‘casual’. We could go around in small groups and benefit from group prices! The great weather was a bonus!

It was so lovely to be out with my camera, to roam about taking pictures rather than 'fitting in' taking pictures! Had a lovely day

I enjoyed it. Simon and Victoria gave very helpful suggestions to correct my bad habits in framing out intrusive objects. It stretched me into a set story tale rather than just my “here is our trip to xyz”. Looking at my photos I am not sure I got the story even started but some photos pleased me. I will be back! Thank you.

It was lovely having someone to give tips and set little challenges especially when sometimes you feel that there is not much in regards colour and contrast on a dull day.

It was interesting and varied. I do like the challenges, even though I get sidetracked occasionally. I also seem to manage to learn more about my camera each time. Thank you.
