Camera Settings and Composition in Nature Photography - Cadman's Pool at 10am
Session with professional nature photographer Phil Gould - this class will be all about camera settings and composition techniques for capturing nature shots. Expect plenty of tips, advice and photo opportunities in this 3 hour workshop held outside. - We recommend bringing a camera that has manual mode -
£20pp     only 2 places left
We have a different photo theme each fortnight and the two hour sessions take place in different outdoor locations across Southampton and Hampshire. Great opportunity to try something new with the guidance of a professional photographer, and come away with some new shots for your portfolio or album.

Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

What’s involved? Each session starts with an introduction to the fortnight’s theme, and the photography instructor will chat about the camera settings and techniques to use. You’ll then have time to take lots of photos, with the instructor present to answer any questions. You’ll receive feedback and have a chance to chat with everyone to share tips and ideas. We’re a social bunch!

The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

The venue was excellent but a pity the weather did not give what we wanted. But you still could pick out light and shadow. Wished I shot in black and white . A return trip is a must

Great advice is always given. You feel very welcomed and don’t feel like there’s a Clique where you feel uncomfortable. It doesn’t matter what level you are you’re here to take photos and hopeful improve on what you know.

Excellent location. What I really like about Simon’s sessions is that he gives some suggestions then leaves one alone to try things out but is always there to give suggestions.

First time I have tried to deliberately take a photo out of focus - controlled focus would perhaps be a better definition. An enjoyable evening.

The event was well organised and started on time. Simon gave a clear brief of what he hoped to achieve during the session and although we were not able to finish off light painting due to time overrun nobody could complain. All in all I learnt a lot and also added to the knowledge that I am acquiring. Thanks for a great evening

The event gave me the opportunity to try a few things I hadn’t done before, such as light painting. On the downside, there were arguably too many people to get all the tripods in for some of the locations.

It was kept simple. Two locations close to one another which allowed the time to be spent on taking photos and receiving very useful assistance from Simon - on this occasion how to use live view and read histogram - and feedback on images captured. I've had my SLR for almost 4 years and only now understand how to shoot using live view and the info there. Thank you.

Good to meet a larger group for this one - it was a social event rather than a tutorial event, and with the numbers attending the group soon split into a number of smaller groups as people spent different amounts of time at each enclosure. Was great to see the variety of shots from people afterwards.

I’m assuming this is re the Marwell trip. It was a really good day, helped by the obliging sunshine. What I like about the SPG is that everyone is so friendly. Its good to be able to just talk and compare notes with so many people, most of whom you may be meeting for the first time.
